Accurate, noninvasive Cologuard recommended for colorectal cancer screening
In its recommendation statement for 2016, the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force fully recommends several screening exams that now include Cologuard, the stool DNA test co-developed by Mayo Clinic and Exact Sciences.

Atezolizumab helps patients' immune systems fight bladder cancer
The Food and Drug Administration has approved the immunological drug atezolizumab to treat patients with metastatic bladder cancer after failure of chemotherapy. Studies show that 15-20 percent of patients treated with the drug had a significant and lasting response.

Radiation plus chemotherapy improves survival for patients with glioma
Research shows that patients with glioma who received radiation therapy plus a chemotherapy regimen, including procarbazine, lomustine and vincristine, experienced a longer progression-free survival and overall survival than patients who received radiation therapy alone.

A Mayo study confirms how phosphatase and tensin homolog (Pten) defects found in patients with cancer lead to the reshuffling of the cell's chromosomes, which propels cancer growth.
